Pokemon GO by Niantic has been an unavoidable fact of daily life since it released almost a month ago. This would only be news of course if you live under a rock somewhere. The augmented reality and concept of the game which encourages players to go out and move around their environment to find Pokemon in real-world locations has made the phenomenon highly visible to those who don’t even play the game.

I played World of Warcraft for years…
Known as WoW by folks in the know, World of Warcraft was a big part of my life in my late twenties. If you count the hours I played, it probably added up to an entire year of my life spent on that game. I made lots of friends and even though I haven’t played the game in years, I’m still friends on social networks with some of those folks and communicate with them regularly today. Unfortunately, as anyone knows, open world MMORPGs also contain a lot of people who spam chat to advertise gold-buying or power-leveling services. There are also a ton of jerks who harass or bully other players. World of Warcraft has always had an ignore command that could block someone from sending you whispers in chat and my ignore list was long for sure. Blizzard’s new silence penalty will be introduced on the August 30th release of the latest expansion, World of Warcraft: Legion. Once a player is reported by another player for harassment or spam, the account will be investigated and a silence penalty could be enforced.
