Covid-19 was the global outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and it was the shock of this era. Obviously, the quarantine period was a tough one for all ages. People were living in full mode anxiety. Concerned of their health, their lives and families, stuck inside without having much to do, people found social media as their meditation toolkit.

COVID-19 Encouraged Social Media Addiction

Social media was everyone’s go-to escape. Everybody was tied with their phones, reaching out for latest news. It became an obsession knowing the updated statistics. When things improved, people began installing the mindset of working remotely. Hence, people were using their electronic devices for work purposes, as well. To this day, it has become the new cool. You don’t necessarily have to dress up and show up to work, unless you are a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter.

Time to Get Back to the Real World

After the pandemic, people were tied with the obsession of technology, for better or for worse. Social media consumption has never been this bad.

  • 1. It’s 2023. If you aren’t productive enough in real life, get over yourself!
  • 2. You should be physically active, have hobbies and change habits!
  • 3. Instagram perfection is not real. It’s photoshop! Yes, maybe you should join a photoshop class.
  • 4. Social media will not pay your bills, unless you’re a digital marketer.
  • 5. Join online trainings to better your technology skills, regarding work and studies.

How You Can Break the Addiction

Never forget, there are so many benefits that may arise from technology itself, but only if you know how to use them and drive the wheel when it comes to them. For instance, you can study online and you can thank yourself later.

Hence, as we navigate the post-pandemic era, it’s important to find a healthy balance with technology. Here are a few tips to help you manage your use of technology:

  • 1. Set boundaries: Create a schedule or routine that includes designated times for using technology, such as checking email or social media. Avoid using technology during meals or before bed.
  • 2. Take breaks: It’s important to take breaks from technology to give your eyes and brain a rest. Consider taking a walk or doing a different activity that doesn’t involve screens.
  • 3. Use technology mindfully: When you do use technology, try to be present and intentional. Avoid multitasking or using technology as a distraction from other tasks.
  • 4. Connect with others: Use technology to connect with friends and family, but also make an effort to connect in person or over the phone. Building strong relationships is important for mental health and wellbeing.
  • 5. Be aware of your emotions: Pay attention to how you feel when using technology. If you notice that you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed, take a break and do something that helps you relax.

Remember that technology can be a valuable tool, but it’s important to use it mindfully and in moderation.

Final Thoughts

Using technology mindfully and in moderation can help you to maintain a healthy balance in your life. Overuse of technology can lead to negative consequences such as increased stress, decreased productivity, constant anxiety and social isolation. It’s important to be aware of how you’re using technology and to make intentional choices about when and how to use it. By setting boundaries, taking breaks, and connecting with others, you can help to ensure that technology supports your wellbeing rather than detracts from it.

In conclusion, technology is an important part of our lives, but it’s important to know how and when to use it and most importantly what for because it can lead to the destruction of whole cultures and generations.
